The Return of Pope Leo XIII, Portrayed by Silverio Capparoni, to the Palazzina dell’Orologio at Villa Reale di Marlia After Restoration

Within the exhibition space of the Palazzina dell’Orologio at Villa Reale di Marlia—where the Pecci Blunt family collected memorabilia related to Pope Leo XIII—the painting depicting the pontiff, signed by Silverio Capparoni (1831–1907), a Roman painter and engraver, has regained its historical placement following a conservation restoration.

The cleaning of the painted surface has made it possible to recover the correct reading of the pictorial material, highlighting the precision with which the artist—trained in the field of engraving and metalwork—skillfully rendered, with remarkable realism, the various goldsmithing elements that embellish the canvas.
